Kyra Carlson - "Portraits of People, Places and Pets"
December 1, 2018 -
January 12, 2019
Kyra Carlson, a resident of Bedford Village for 25 years, will exhibit her collection of drawings and oil paintings at the Pound Ridge Library from December 1 - January 12. Her work focuses on her love of the natural world, and capturing one’s unique individuality in a portrait.
Kyra has always had a passion for drawing and creating things ever since she was a young girl. She attended the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and majored in Illustration. Her professional career began as a staff designer for several leading giftware, party and home goods manufacturers creating diverse products ranging from teddy bears, costumes, tabletop, and toys; to novelty jewelry and beyond. When her children were born, she chose to become a stay at home mother and freelance designer.
In her spare time, she nurtured her artistic side by taking fine art classes in portraiture and landscape painting at the Westchester Center for the Arts, Silvermine School of Art, and the Katonah Art Center. She has studied for many years with Andrew Lattimore, a classically trained fine artist. She says, “It’s been wonderful to fall in love with traditional painting and drawing all over again…rediscover the joys and challenges of capturing the likeness of a person, the ever-changing light effects and weather of an outdoor landscape, and the personal satisfaction of creating a one of a kind, hand drawn work of art.”
Over the years, Kyra has exhibited her artwork in local art shows and the Flat Iron Gallery in Peekskill. She has won several Women’s Club Beaux Arts Awards for her portraits and oil paintings, in addition to completing private portrait commissions.
Kyra is married with two children. After drawing and painting, Kyra loves skiing, hiking, roller skating, and playing mahjongg. She has been a very active volunteer in the community, and is currently a member in the Civil Air Patrol where she has become qualified as an airborne photographer.
Kyra is available for commissioned portraits of your family, friends, special places or beloved pets.
The opening reception will take place on December 1, 2018 between 3:00pm-5:00pm. Refreshments will be served. The exhibit will run for six weeks.
